Judge orders Demjanjuk to appear in court

MUNICH (AP) - A German judge for the first time ordered John Demjanjuk to appear in court after the 90-year-old's health issues caused the cancellation of sessions in his trial over allegations that he was a guard at the Nazis' Sobibor death camp.

German artist revives names of Holocaust victims

BERLIN - Artist Gunter Demnig carefully pried a cobblestone out of the sidewalk on Friedrichstrasse in downtown Berlin and replaced it with a shiny square brass plaque.

"Davicso Asriel lived here," the inscription read. "Born in 1882. Deported 25.1.1942. Murdered in Riga."

Immaculata University Hosts First Holocaust Commemoration

Holocaust Awareness Museum Sponsors Michael Herskovitz

The music of Felix Mendelssohn, a German composer whose works were banned in Nazi Germany because of his Jewish ancestry, rang through Villa Maria Hall where more than 150 students and staff gathered for Immaculata University’s Holocaust commemoration earlier this spring. With an audience three times larger than the estimated attendance, Michael Herskovitz, an 81-year-old Holocaust survivor, could address a curious crowd and fulfill a promise to himself to tell his story to the world so we might never forget.

Concert to Benefit the Holocaust Awareness Museum

On Sunday, July 11, 2010, the Keneseth Israel Congregation, at 8339 Old York Rd, Elkins Park, PA is hosting a concert to benefit the Holocaust Awareness Museum. Featured performers are Phyllis Chapell and Ken Ulansey. Come enjoy an afternoon of wonderful music in an air conditioned venue and support the Holocaust Awareness Museum. The concert is from 2-4pm. Tickets for members of the Museum or Keneseth Israel are $15 for individuals and $25 for couples. Tickets for non-members are $20 for individuals and $35 for couples. Group prices are available upon request.

The Holocaust Awareness Museum Remembers Hans Salomon

All of the people who had the honor and privilege of getting to know Hans Salomon were tremendously saddened by his death. He was a kind, gentle, loving and dedicated man. He endured the ultimate indignities with dignity. He responded to cruelty with love and compassion. He emerged victorious over his oppressors by creating a wonderful life with his beloved wife Ruth and his beautiful family.

Judges reject Demjanjuk defense argument

BERLIN---
Judges threw out motions to dismiss the case against accused Nazi guard John Demjanjuk on Thursday, rejecting several key defense arguments and saying they found the evidence against him to be strong.

The ruling prompted attorneys from both sides to say the court appears to be leaning toward a guilty verdict.

For mentally ill survivors, Holocaust terrors endure

At the Shaar Menashe Mental Health Center in northern Israel, it’s as though the Holocaust never ended. Patients sometimes still wake up in the middle of the night screaming, "The Nazis are coming!"
According to a survey performed by the Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims in Israel, eighty percent of the 200 patients have trouble sleeping and two-thirds suffer from emotional distress. Other research has shown that Holocaust survivors are at a higher risk of suicide because of their experiences during the Holocaust.

HAVERFORD TWP - Haverford High School English instructor Jen Ward has taught thousands of students about the Holocaust through books like Elie Wiesel’s “Night.” But Ward has always felt her classes have difficulty “making the connection between history and a real person.”

Satell Teen Fellow Aviva Koloski, for her Satell commitment project, is producing, directing, and performing in the play, "And A Child Shall Lead," which is about the children of Terezin during the Holocaust.
