Holocaust survivors are at greater risk for cancer

A study at the University of Haifa in Israel compared more than 300,000 European Jews who emigrated before or during the war against those who left Europe after the war has concluded that Holocaust survivors, because of the extreme caloric deprivation, are at greater risk for cancer. According to the study, a majority of the survivors lived on 200-800 calories. In addition, the study also compared those with post traumatic stress disorder with lung cancer rates due to smoking.

A UN-backed tribunal in Cambodia has for the first time charged two former Khmer Rouge leaders with genocide.

Auschwitz sign stolen, recovered

At 5am on Friday December 18, 2009, Polish police were alerted that the infamous wrought iron sign at Auschwitz, "Arbeit Macht Frei," was stolen. After a frantic three day search, the sign was recovered after being cut into three pieces several hundred miles to the north, near Gdansk. Five men were arrested and if convicted could spend 10 years in prison.
